a buyer's guide to the 2021 ford mustang in mabank, txThere are few cars on the market today with such a legendary history as the 2021 Ford Mustang. From its inception in 1964 right up until the present day, the Mustang has been the quintessential American muscle car, powered by an equally iconic series of V8 engines. The last major update in 2015 added independent rear suspension, while 2021 sees the return of the Mach-1 variant, last used back in 1969. Read on for our buyer’s guide where you can find everything you need to know about the Mustang.

Overview

If you’re looking for a track day machine, or just want a sporty daily driver, there’s a Mustang for everyone. A range of excellent engine choices give you plenty of options, and while choosing a four-cylinder might seem sacrilege, there’s enough power there to worry the V8-powered Mustangs from days of yore. Beautiful bodywork that complements both the coupe and convertible versions tops off the package.

If it’s the power you’re after, Ford offers a wide range of performance-oriented variants, including the revived Mach 1, and of course, the Shelby variants leave the competition in the dust, especially when equipped with the GT500 Carbon Fiber handling package, which includes carbon-fiber wheels, adjustable suspension mounts, and notable aerodynamic improvements.

Engines and Performance

As mentioned above, the Mustang is available with a turbocharged 2.3-liter I4 as standard, which packs a very impressive 310hp and 350lb-ft of torque. The horsepower can be boosted to 330 with the addition of the High Performance optional package. However, it’s the 5.0-liter “Coyote” V8 that will attract many people, promising as it does the classic Mustang experience. It’s found on the GT versions and can churn out 460hp in standard GT form, or up to 480hp in the Mach 1.

There are two transmission options with the Mustang. Buyers get the choice of either a six-speed manual transmission or a ten-speed automatic. However, the high-performance GT500 has a model-specific powertrain, consisting of a supercharged 5.2-liter V8. This can produce up to 760hp and 625lb-ft, sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With the addition of the Carbon Fiber Pack, 0-60 times of 3.6 seconds are possible.

Interior

The Mustang’s interior design has evolved in a way that pays homage to the Mustangs of old while retaining a livable and functional design that’s better than ever. Unusually for a high-spec performance car, there is plenty of cargo space in the trunk and interior storage areas, which only enhances its potential as a daily driver.

Safety and Technology

The Mustang features a clean, uncomplicated infotainment system, with an excellent stereo, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Wi-Fi hotspot is optional, while the Ford Sync Connect System, which allows drivers to control and monitor their Mustang through a smartphone app, is standard on all models
The Mustang earned 5 stars from the NHTSA and is available with plenty of driver-assist technology, including lane-keeping assist, forward emergency braking, and automatic collision warning.
