2023 Ford F-150 Lightning
Pickup trucks are known for their immense power, capability, and style, but also for fuel inefficiency. That last factor turns a lot of people off to the concept, but new electric trucks have been removing it as a problem entirely. Trucks like the new 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning take electric pickup trucks to the next level. Learn about everything it can offer, and discover whether it's the right pickup for you.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
There are four trim levels to choose from with the F-150 Lightning, and they each have impressive exterior features to consider. The base level is known as the Pro, and it comes with automatic high beams and 18-inch machined wheels with black high-gloss pockets. Upgrade to the XLT, and you can increase the wheels to 20 inches as an available add-on. The standard XLT comes with LED mirror-mounted spotlights.
With the Lariat trim, you get LED box lighting and 20-inch alloy dark carbonized gray wheels standard. The grille also has signature front lighting and a geometric gray-ion fine satin metallic design. Finally, the Platinum trim offers top-of-the-line style with a Vader Black high-gloss grille and 22-inch wheels bright machined with ebony black painted pockets.

Engine (Power)
Two engine options are available under the hood of this truck, and the primary difference is range. The standard-range battery can't match the extended-range battery, of course, but the standard range is still quite impressive with its 452 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque. The extended range increases the horsepower to 580.
Performance
The essence of performance in a pickup truck is its capability, and the electric Ford F-150 Lightning has plenty of that. The towing capacity is 10,000 pounds maximum when properly equipped, but even the standard-range model can tow up to 7,700 pounds. As for payload, the standard range has the advantage with a 2,000-pound limit, while the extended range's capacity is 1,800 pounds.
Interior
Electric vehicles tend to be a bit more advanced in the technology department than others, and the F-150 Lightning is no exception. While the interior seems fairly normal for an F-150 at first glance, it has some upgrades like a massive infotainment screen that's perfect for navigation and entertainment. The standard size is 12 inches, but you can upgrade the screen to 15 inches if you like. Additionally, the electric F-150 has a front trunk with some additional cargo space since the space up there isn't needed for a big engine like it is with the gas model.
Safety Features
Given the advanced technology present everywhere else in the vehicle, it's only natural that the electric F-150 offers driver assistance features as well. Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist are both standard on all models, letting you drive with peace of mind. Additionally, you can opt for adaptive cruise control and a hands-free driving mode that will essentially keep the truck in your lane for you.
